public schools need to get out of the dark ages

Really no electorics in class. If public schools were driving schools there would be no cars allow.
We should teach equitte not absences !!

Really Mike has a research report where they want two paper print sources. I am have not cited a paper book that is not a text book in ten years

The whole virtual learning colleges are expoding with this
open course ware
moodle

hello public schools where are you ?

moving along

So i feel we are into the routine of the game. I still need to add the whole live session piece. I think that will be a friday moring thing.
But this job has ruined me for checkping papers by hand! I think if I ever when back to the paper world, I would PDF the papers. Carol approved me getting a tablet input devices. I cannot wait to play with that.

The Adobe connect will be fun to play with. I plan on worksheet activities. with input. Group writes. Shared vidoes and prezi

But yesterday staff meeting was interesting. Carol's way of doing things is. She starts generally talking about something. that means she has researched it and we are probably going this way unless a really good reason comes up. So what she put out there was we are doing a high school using Florida Virtual High School. I looked it up. Nice option. Really professional. More features.  Can you say teacher conferences in Florida!!
I am the only one on staff certified in secondary sooooo but there are the WAY people.

WAY is the current credit recovery program for high school OS offers now. Not so popular.Carol is in charge of it come Janurary. Tresa is doing part of it to. I am worried we are losing them.

However Carol said:
"If the supers decided to do the high school - that's not what I signed on today " doe that mean there's another admin position for me!!
"Right now we are just a project. In four years we may be our own group" I want to be the director of that group after Carol retires again
" Some of you will be asked to do parent meetings" I hope I am one !!

Hopes for being an admin next year !!! Really hopes for march but hey I would take next year..

Oh did I tell you I submitted my application for Board of education member in Rochester. I want the professional experince, the knowledge and yeah the power but Carol does it  yeah she's my new hero

input

I would love to ask the teachers in the program

You have to interact with student every week, what did you learn worked best for your students?
How are you logging interactions?
What many of your students are on pace?
What does you daily routine look like

Under the loose tight rules
It's tight we have do to this
It's loose how you do it. so how are you doing it?

what do we know we know and don't know

I think it would bean interesting exercise to put flip chart page on the wall and have our staff fill this in

things we know we know

  • this in undefined
  • start up year

things we know we don't know

  • grading policy
  • ending the year
  • pacing guides

thing we don't know that we know

  • how to deal with parents
  • excel skills
  • working with PDFs
  • writing rubrics

things we don't know that we don't know

  • writing issues
  • parent push back
  • message boards were a huge problem
  • parents will quit if you give an -A

meeting insight

So today I was in a meeting with our team all day for the first time since PD before school. It was interesting to find how the personalities played in the room.
By 1 pm I was finding it so hard to stay engaged in the discussion. I really hope I did not seem checked out. The meeting was not going any where for me.
The day before C told only me she wanted me and M to co-chair the project. I did lead off the meeting but then S took us in a direction that keep her typing, wording and directing for the rest of the day.

I feel that because we are all leaders we could   have gotten more done in smaller groups rather then working whole group. It would have been more productive and job embedded -hey that's from research for my paper due tonight!  Staying whole group focused to work on something for a grade level I was not in was jsut not a valid use of my time.

I feel like I started off the meeting well. I lead with seeking consensus, setting direction explaining process and goals. But in this team environment I do not have the vote power that C does to just us back on line. At 1pm the team was going back to decision we made at 10 am. That's when I  spoke up to keep them on track.

I learned a lot about teams and productive working. I never want to be in a meeting S is leading. there' s too way words and minutia. Small group work would have been easier to reach consensus and be productive through creative tension ( our competitive nature).  We needed more direction; boundaries loose tight leadership. Here's the standard we are using. Here's the generic rubric. Create a generic rubric for your grade level. Then research the assignment specifics from the manuals and textbooks to create assignment specific. Also including weighting for the test is needed.

It was an introspective day for me.
